Yes. They can be both used for a Magento installation. But you can also use each independently.
While we highly recommend that you run X-POS with a stable Internet connection, sometimes your web provider might let you down. Thus, X-POS offers Offline Mode that lets you handle almost every store task such as taking cash payments, adding customer and searching for products.
